A worked example

A salary rises from 250 to 375. What is the percent increase?
  1. Find the amount of change by subtracting the two values.\\375  −  \; - \;250  =  \; = \;125
  2. Divide by the original value to see what fraction of the original changed.125250  =  0.5\\ \frac{125}{250} \; = \; 0.5
  3. Multiply by 100 to convert to a percent.0.5  ×  \\ 0.5 \; \times \;100  =  50%\; = \; 50\%
  4. The percent increase is 50%50\%.
