A worked example

What is the result of 0.8  ×  \; \times \;0.7?
  1. We need to find 0.8  ×  \; \times \;0.7. Multiply the digits as whole numbers, then count decimal places to place the decimal point.
  2. Multiply digits as whole numbers: 8  ×  \; \times \;7  =  \; = \;56. The wrong options have the same digits but the decimal point in a different position.
  3. Count decimal places: 0.8 has 1, 0.7 has 1. Total = 2. The product needs exactly 2 decimal places.
  4. Place the decimal point in 56 to get 2 decimal places → 0.56
