A worked example

Calculate 23  ×  \; \times \;3.
  1. We need to find 23  ×  \; \times \;3.
  2. Break 23 into place values: 23=20  +  \; + \;3.
  3. Multiply each part by 3: 20  ×  \; \times \;3  =  \; = \;60, 3  ×  \; \times \;3  =  \; = \;9.
  4. Add the partial products: 60  +  \; + \;9  =  \; = \;69.
  5. So 23  ×  \; \times \;3  =  \; = \;69.
