A worked example

Calculate 4  ×  \; \times \;2.
  1. We need to find 4  ×  \; \times \;2.
  2. Think of it as adding 2 to itself 4 times: 2  +  \; + \;2  +  \; + \;2  +  \; + \;2  =  \; = \;8.
  3. So 4  ×  \; \times \;2  =  \; = \;8. The correct answer is 8.
  4. 4 is wrong — that is 4 x 1, not 4 x 2.\\6 is wrong — that is 3 x 2, not 4 x 2.\\9 is wrong — off by 1.
